News Flash!

Boise’s favorite avant-garde quintet, ATTN, plans to release its first full-length album later this year. Rather than record older songs, three of the members recently escaped to a McCall area cabin with the intention of writing new material for the release.

“We are creating this album like one might write an epic movie,” says guitarist Eric Bower. “The idea is that at the end (of the album), the listener has a realization that they could not have come to without the beginning.”

- Icy Matt Dalley (Taken from The Arbiter)

Hey all, our dear friend Matt said it better than I could myself in a recent issue of The Arbiter (BSU student paper).  Just a reminder and a possible informer of some recent adjustments we have made to insure you that we are producing the best album we are capable of achieving.  Thank you for all of your concerns, and worry not, for when we have (finished) what you want – it will not fail your ears or hearts.

Community and Art:

The following correspondence took place at the Grove Hotel in Boise, Idaho on November 5, 2009. Trevor Kamplain (ATTN, Night Hawk, Red Tent) writes the following on hotel stationary and asks Grammy Award winning composer and recording artist Randall Coryell to take the time to reflect on what it means to connect with and impact his audience as a performer:

‘Please list the TOP specific genres that have proven to extract the MOST intense emotions out of the audience. Even to the point of where the audience craves to be a part of the performance. I’m looking for carnal, humanistic, natural exhibits of behavior, as well as DEEP emotional draw…’

-Trevor Kamplain

Between sets, he wrote back:

1. Silence before performing a song -

Sitting still & waiting for “the moment” (audience anticipates!)

2. Comedy in a song -

Something that touches a sore spot – but they can laugh at it because of what the song is saying to them

3. Sexual -

Man do I have stories!! Music just does that to some people – but not necessarily for the ones you want it to work for!

4. Joy:

When music makes the feeling of going completely to a different place – a happy, serene place & the audience virtually craves more of it – the hardest part is re-doing what was just done, almost impossible – however, it makes for deep friendships & relationships – and it doesn’t hurt sales either! (They want to ‘take me home’ so to speak)

5.

The deepest thing I have ever experienced is when the music I play has so touched someone so deeply it has helped heal wounded hearts & spirits that are broken- & the impression is one of a lifetime. I’ve always believed that it is somewhat of a “karma” thing – it has been true for as long as I can remember -

“Reap what you sow”

The rewards are truly human.

-Randall Coryell
